Building Information Modeling (BIM)

A technique that uses 'real time' digital information (such as: building geometry, spatial relationships, geographic information, energy systems, and other quantities and properties) to create more accurate project models and construction schedules. This aids developers and others to reduce expenses and costly mistakes over the life of a structure.

Crate & Barrel reaps the rewards of early BIM adoption
Crate & Barrel Director of Construction John Moebes, who as early as 2002 required BIM (building information models) for all new store construction projects, currently has 22 BIM projects under his belt. Moebes said BIM projects take 40% less time and cost 50% less than pre-BIM projects. "We had to reduce project costs and time.
